CREATIVE WEEKS APRIL 2024
Our creative weeks will begin again at the Kunstklärwerk on April 6th and 7th. We plan to create a very special atmosphere at the Kunstklärwerk. We will illuminate both the interior and exterior areas.
Here we present our events.
SEMINAR
Grundlagen
der Metallgestaltung
des Schmiedens
Metal design
My seminar teaches the basics of metalworking. No prior knowledge is necessary. We'll meet at 8:30 a.m. on the day of the seminar and get to know each other over a cup of coffee or tea. I'll introduce you to my studio, where the tools are located, and explain, for example, how a drill works and what you can do with a torch. We'll then begin experimenting with small metal objects. From experience, this will take about two hours, before moving on to larger projects. And then things really get started – I'll work on an idea with each participant, such as a lamp, a garden object, a bookend, etc. Then things get creative... we'll first create a draft on paper, the so-called "proportion theory," and then gradually work towards the desired object. At the end of the studio day, each participant will take home a beautiful, self-made piece of art.
We offer a small lunch, as well as drinks, wine, etc., which are included in the course fee. Please bring work clothes, appropriate gloves, and safety goggles.
Per day
maximum 4 people
can participate with me. The seminar begins at
8:30 and ends at 18:00
The course fee is 300€ including material costs (30€) and small meals
Seminar: Forging
In this seminar, I will show you the basics of blacksmithing. Blacksmithing is one of the oldest crafts in human history. The technique has not changed fundamentally over the past millennia – fire, water, anvils, and metals form the basis. Here, too, we start at 8:30 a.m. with a cup of coffee or tea. At the beginning of the seminar, I will introduce the fireplace, forge, cleaver, hammer, tongs, and how to use them. The course participants will be introduced to the forging process step by step, learning lengthening, splitting, piercing, and other techniques. By the end of the working day, each course participant will have crafted various small workpieces, from candlesticks and coat hooks to a small knife.
Per day maximum 2 people can participate with me.
The seminar begins at
8:30 and then ends at 18:00.
The course fee is: 300€ per person including material costs (30€) and a small meal.

etching
The term "etching" actually has only a secondary connection to etching or erasing: It's actually the work with, and especially on, metal plates, from which a number of prints can then be made using ink. This somewhat forgotten art offers many techniques for achieving a printable result. In this course, which lasts several days, participants will be familiarized with the subject so that they can make a few prints themselves at the end.
The course will cover the following topics: the technical process for creating an etching, the most well-known techniques using examples from various artists, the different metals and their advantages and disadvantages, in-depth metal work, the design and implementation of an idea, printing on paper and the preparation, working with copperplate inks, etc. We will attempt to cover drypoint and line etching, going through all the steps from creation to printing. The printed result will be given to the participants afterwards. At the start of the course, participants should already have motifs they would like to create ready. (Please think in black/white/grey and not in color). You should also bring all small tools with which you can scratch and work on metal. We will then select the works and tools together.
Important: We have reconsidered the course duration and come up with a different schedule to accommodate those who are on holiday over Easter! The course will therefore only begin on the Wednesday after Easter, April 12 and lasts until Friday, April 14. Of course, the costs of the course are also minimized: 170€ including material costsPlease register by April 1st via: info@norbertthen.de

Life drawing
The human figure is probably one of the motifs most frequently chosen by artists…and not without reason:
It's very complex, can be highly abstracted, and even the smallest sketch has meaning; gestures and facial expressions are in harmony with or in contrast to the figure, and...and...and... Drawing from the figure is definitely difficult work: measuring distances, understanding the tension in the body structure, understanding depth and foreshortening, and repeatedly recognizing "positive-negative forms," capturing light and dark, the dimension in the human figure on paper, etc. "At the beginning, we'll practice a few ways to gain clarity in drawing from the figure—a lot of seeing is required! We'll see a number of drawings—familiar and unfamiliar, in books and in the original. Those with no experience will feel a little overwhelmed—at first... But we'll briefly discuss all the work after the "life drawing" class, and you can be sure that you'll go home with a certain amount of pride."
Please do not choose drawing pads or sketchbooks that are too small - A3 minimum please.
Anything is allowed on drawing instruments.
Ideally, I recommend something you can use to work linearly (pencil, etc.) and something you can use to work with flat surfaces (chalk, etc.). Otherwise, bring whatever you're used to drawing with.
This includes two hours of drawing from the model. The remaining time is used for corrections and portrait drawing. The course fee is €120. The maximum number of participants is 7 people.

Kemper Profiler
- Sound and more
This course is intended for Kemper PROFILER beginners and those who are curious and want to learn more. The focus is on creating good, workable sounds. Previously created profiles serve as a basis. I've owned Kemper Profiler amps for many years and have searched for alternatives and improvements in many different ways: tube amps and power amplifiers of all kinds, effects, etc. However, all of this has always brought me back to the Kemper. The best option, of course, would be for each participant to bring their own Kemper, and we'll go through in detail how and what to adjust to achieve "their own sound." Power amplifiers and speakers are available, both active and passive. We will continually improvise on song material or loopers to test the changes and adjust them if necessary.

This “course” is also a test balloon to find out whether there is interest in it.
To ensure effectiveness, each afternoon 4 places Free. The fee per pitch per day is €30.
"Fashion, Heads and Rock'n'Roll"
SA. 15.04 um 20:00
The creative weeks at the Stadtlohn Art Wastewater Treatment Plant continue on April 15th with "Fashion, Heads and Rock'n'Roll" and the photographer Peter Kallwitz as well as - as a special guest - the artist and former Beuys master student IGADiM (Wolfgang Wendtker).
Moderated by sculptor and musician Norbert Then, the two creative minds discuss their work, their intentions, and encounters and events during the creative process. During the photo shoot, Rolling Stone Mick Taylor talks about his introduction to the Stones and how he was initially astonished by what he saw and heard upon his first encounter with the band.
Kallwitz also recounts encounters with George Harrison of the Beatles and a shoot with Konstantin Wecker, who composed the music for the Peter Patzak film "1945." Photographer Peter Kallwitz has published in magazines such as Rolling Stone, Playboy, Cinema, and others. He has made short films, including one about the legendary photographer and advertising artist Charles Wilp. His photos were included in the feature film "Ich, Immendorff" by director Nicola Graef. He also photographed a campaign for filmmaker and author Doris Dörrie for children in Latin America, featuring a large portion of Germany's elite actors, such as Franka Potente and Jürgen Tarrach. For several years now, Kallwitz has photographed fashion and artists for, among others, the American "Mode Lifestyle Magazine."
Special Guest IGADiM
- I believe in people

"In 1968 I met Joseph Beuys.
The sculpture "Vacuum <-> Mass" brought us together. I discovered it at the Helmut Rywelski Gallery in Cologne. The gallery owner called Joseph Beuys and told him there was an interesting young collector who would like to buy the object, because Beuys had actually wanted to sell it to a museum. Joseph Beuys came to the gallery to meet me. The object was displayed in my parents' house in Herten. There, I showed Joseph Beuys my artistic work, which he was interested in seeing. He then asked me if I would like to join him at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf. Shortly thereafter, I applied and graduated as a master student in 1973.
He comes accompanied by his daughter Nora Seib, who plays a piece on her harp.

DUO ALEXANDRE
TANSMAN
Sat. 22.04 at 8:00 PM
Thomas Döller (flute) and guitarist Jürgen Schwalk have been working together since their days as students at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. Their exploration of the piano music of Alexandre Tansman has been a particularly important source of inspiration for Jürgen Schwalk and Thomas Döller.
The duo has gained international recognition through invitations to chamber music festivals in Ankara/Türkiye, Pistoia/Italy and Morelia/Mexico.
The focus of Duo Alexandre Tansman's current program is a new arrangement of a piano composition by its namesake: The listener experiences an imaginary bus ride through Paris in eight miniatures. Beginning in the majestic expanse of Notre Dame Church, the tour continues with brief musical impressions to the opera, a visit to a Jewish synagogue, the sophisticated Place Pigalle, the Paris Stock Exchange, and then to St. Lazaire station. Passing the Champs-Élysées, the bus ride ends at the Place de l'Étoile with echoes of the British national anthem.
In their concert, the Duo Alexandre Tansman will also offer works by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Máximo Diego Pujol,
Astor Piazzolla and Jürgen Schwalk.
Humorous Low German stories for children and adults

Low German, is next to my Love for the
Nature:"I love greens" a concern.
I try to preserve the Low German language as long as possible, which is why I start teaching it early in elementary school. In third and fourth grade, every Monday is "Ik küür Platt." We sing Low German songs, read Low German stories, and learn the language through play, for example, through old games. I have compiled many short stories, sayings, musical plays, and short plays in my book, "Wippstättken." Sometimes the children and I perform dances or musical plays at various events, perhaps in retirement homes, etc. But the garden, the respect for nature, the flowers... are my most beautiful relaxation. Every plant, every flower inspires me to create new works of art from and with nature!
There are many options in our flower shop and nursery. A visit to us is always worthwhile.
